I’m sure many of you who have done work in Africa have experienced the issue of arriving in an area armed with a map, only to see that the area is almost entirely beyond recognition to what it looked like on paper.

Urban ARK postdoc Faith Taylor, and KCL PhD student Michele Ferretti are organising a mapathon to add richness to the Open Street Map data availble for Karonga, Malawi.

This was my second trip to sub-Saharan Africa as part of the Urban ARK project, and quite a different experience to the first. This trip was mainly to attend the Urban ARK open science conference and meetings with various stakeholders.
